Laboratories
The ETM program maintains two labs for research and student use.
- Environmental Technology Laboratory
- Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Lab
Environmental Technology Laboratory:
A fully functional chemistry lab is maintained in the Technology Center. This laboratory houses a comprehensive array of instrumentation and wet lab equipment.
Instrumentation
- Graphite furnace and Flame Atomic Adsorption Spectroscopy (AAS) for trace metal analysis
- Ultraviolet/Visible Light spectroscopy
- Gas Chromatographs with purge and trap capabilities that include Electronic Capture
- Detectors (ECD) and Flame Ionization Detectors (FID) and Photoionization Detectors (PID)
- Total Organic Carbon Analyzer

Wet Chemistry and Field Equipment
Laboratory equipment includes specific ion electrodes, pH measurement, density determination, Biological and Chemical Oxygen Demand, Kjeldahl nitrogen, Soxhlet extraction and K-D concentrators.
Field instruments include split spoon samplers, EnCore samplers, drum samplers, bailers, dissolved oxygen and salinity meters, and portable FIDs, PIDs, combustible gas indicators, and an APD 2000 to detect chemical warfare agents.
Emergency Operations Center Laboratory
 A fully functional Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is maintained at ASU Polytechnic campus through a partnership with the Arizona Division of Emergency Management (ADEM). This facility serves as the State of Arizona Alternate EOC and is maintained in a turn-key state of readiness by ASU. When not being used by the ADEM, the facility is used to conduct human factors research as well as EOC training.
